I am so close to publishing To Trust and To Touch - on December 13 - so I wanted to share with you the kind of books I have read that are kinda similar to my book.
I think they call these comparative titles, so this is the list of mine.
I highly recommend all of these books, especially if you like darkness with your romance and you don't mind triggers. Especially if you love hurt comfort and you like to focus on the psychological aspects of the story, then feel all the things.
This is a lovely story about a man who doesn't trust easily, who struggles to survive, and about being homeless.
It's the story of Dominic, who arrives to Camassia Cove in the beginning of the novel, and right away, he meets Adrian, a teacher who is sweet and tender and tends to rescue 'strays'. I love those!
They form a beautiful bond through time.
It's such a sweet and soulful story of an unlikely match, and I just loved both the characters, their relationship, and all the ups and downs. If you like hurt comfort MM romances like I do, this is going to fill your heart with butterflies.
I am a sucker for a good rescue story, where someone saves you from the darkness that follows you around. Where you let them heal your heart. :)
After this book, I read the other Camassia Cove books, as well, and since then, Cara Dee has become one of my all-time favorite MM romance authors.
This is the story of Alex, who is giving up on living.
There's a big trigger warning for suicidal ideation here, so proceed accordingly.
Alex just exists and he's on the edge of living, when he meets the sweet gentle giant Austin. While Austin isn't sure why he's attracted to Alex, I believe it's because he can sense Alex's pain, and this is where the hurt/healing aspect comes in. Austin is patient as he tries to discover what torments Alex and bring him back to life again.
It's an angsty read with triggers, and it's definitely dark, but there is also hope, and there is light, and there is love. I love that the author struck a good balance.
This is a dark book about a life cloaked in darkness.
It's about a young man who struggles a lot, every day. Trey has a lot of demons, and so this is mostly a dark romance, and it's not a typical romance either. There's a lot of stuff happening before Trey even meets the love interest, and once he does, both of them need to heal, not just one, so it's a hurt/comfort, but double.
While this is much darker than what you'll find in To Trust and To Touch, I found the main characters to be very similar. Not to mention, the themes are somewhat similar as well, so I wanted to include this as another MM romance recommendation.
There are a lot of triggers in this one, including SA, unaliving, and mental illness.

Just like the books before, in this one you will find:

-- another man who helps him heal
-- a sweet and sad hurt/comfort story
-- a balance of darkness and light
You can watch, but you can’t touch.

However, a chance encounter with a man who is the very epitome of the word safe may change all that. A man who runs a charity for abandoned queer kids, who has a five-year-old daughter, and who is unlike anyone Alex has ever met.
After years of focusing on raising his daughter and running his charity, Sigh’s status quo is shaken up when he meets a man covered in vine tattoos outside his brother's club. The young man stirs a longing he has ignored for far too long. However, he seems unwilling to let anybody in, so Sigh faces an insurmountable challenge to overcome these barriers and find some way to connect.
Will Alex ever let someone touch him? Will Sigh find somebody to fill the emptiness? Will the men find a way to heal together?
